1563년에 작성된 하이델베르크 교리문답은 루터교와 가톨릭이 주류를 이루던 독일 지역 안에서, 드물게 형성된 칼빈주의 신앙의 한 흐름 속에서 탄생했습니다. 이 교리문답은 본래 팔츠 지역 사람들 사이의 종교적 연합을 촉진하기 위한 교육 도구로 구상되었으나, 곧 설교를 위한 지침서로도 사용되기 시작했습니다.

하이델베르크 교리문답은 다정하고 따뜻하며, 동시에 깊이 개인적인 신앙 고백으로서, 오늘날에 이르기까지 개혁교회들 안에서 지속적인 사랑과 지지를 받아온 충분한 이유를 지니고 있습니다.

The Heidelberg Catechism, written in 1563, originated in one of the few pockets of Calvinistic faith in the Lutheran and Catholic territories of Germany. Conceived originally as a teaching instrument to promote religious unity in the Palatinate, the catechism soon became a guide for preaching as well. It is a remarkably warm-hearted and personalized confession of faith, eminently deserving of its popularity and among Reformed churches to the present day.
