저는 사무엘 임Samuel Lim이라고 합니다, 2016년부터 지금까지 뉴저지 은혜채플에서 행정 목사로 섬기고 있습니다. 2000년에 목회 사역의 길을 걷기 시작한 이후, 하나님께서는 저를 미주리주 세인트루이스, 텍사스주 휴스턴, 캘리포니아주 로스앤젤레스를 거쳐, 현재의 뉴저지 은혜채플로 인도해 주셨습니다.

저는 5살 때 예수님을 영접했습니다. 그 후 얼마 지나지 않아, 저를 주님께 봉헌한 부모님께서는(성경 속 사무엘 이야기처럼) 저를 한국 태백산맥에 위치한 예수원으로 보내셨습니다. 그곳에서 저는 대천덕 신부님R.A. Torrey III과 제인 사모님과 함께 8년 동안 생활했습니다. 기도에 전념하는 그 공동체 안에서, 저는 6살이라는 어린 나이에 목회자로 부르시는 주님의 분명한 소명을 처음으로 느꼈습니다. 그곳에서의 시간은 저를 깊이 변화시켰고, 하나님을 온전히 의지하는 삶의 틀을 마련해 주었습니다. 13살에 다시 미국으로 돌아올 때에도, 저는 그 소명을 가슴에 품고 돌아왔습니다.

저는 미주리주 스프링필드에서 학업을 이어가며, Central Bible College에서 목회학 학사를, 이후 Assemblies of God 신학교에서 목회학 석사 학위를 취득했습니다. 그리고 2012년, 하나님께서 예비하신 사역의 길로 온전히 나아가기 위해 목사 안수를 받았습니다.

비록 저의 초기 사역은 오순절 교단의 영향을 받았으나, 하나님께서는 어린 시절부터 제 안에 개혁주의 신학의 마음을 빚어오셨습니다. 특히 하나님의 주권적인 은혜를 강조하고 성경을 깊이 있게 수호하는 개혁주의 전통에 깊이 매료되었습니다. 그리고 지난 3월, CRC 교단의 목사로 전입할 기회가 주어졌을 때, 마치 고향으로 돌아온 듯한 느낌을 받았습니다. 하나님의 완벽한 타이밍에 감사하며, 설렘과 겸손한 마음으로 이 과정을 밟았습니다.

개인적인 면을 조금 더 말씀드리자면, 저는 밝고 즐거운 분위기를 좋아합니다. 친구들과 농담을 주고받거나 좋은 영화를 보며 휴식을 취하기도 하고, 스포츠(특히 대학 미식축구)를 직접 즐기거나 관람하는 것도 좋아합니다. 또한 뉴욕 Yankees의 열렬한 팬이기도 합니다. 무엇보다 가족과 함께 보내는 시간을 가장 소중히 여깁니다. 저는 아내 애슐리Ashley와 행복한 가정을 꾸리고 있으며, 저희 집안에 끊임없는 기쁨과 활력을 불어넣어 주는 두 아들 에이든Aiden과 알렉스Alex와 함께 복된 삶을 살고 있습니다.

하나님의 은혜로 저는 은혜채플 뿐만 아니라, 이제는 더 넓은 북미주 개혁교회 공동체의 일원으로서 섬길 수 있는 특권을 누리고 있습니다. 저의 기도는 단순합니다. 주님께서 저와 제 아내, 그리고 두 아들을 계속해서 사용하셔서, 우리 성도님들과 교단, 그리고 그 너머에 있는 하나님의 나라에 축복의 통로가 되기를 간절히 소망합니다.

My name is Samuel Lim and I currently serve as Executive Pastor at Grace Community Chapel of NJ.  I've served at GCC with joy and gratitude since late 2016.  My journey in pastoral ministry began back in 2000 and God led me through pastoral ministry in St. Louis, Missouri; Houston, Texas; Los Angeles, California; and finally at GCC in New Jersey.

At 5 years old, I accepted Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior. Not long after, my parents, who had dedicated me to the Lord (like the story Samuel), sent me to Jesus Abbey in the mountains of Taebaek, South Korea. There, I lived for 8 years with missionaries R.A. Torrey III and his wife, Jane. It was in that prayer-focused community, at the age of 6, that the Lord first stirred a clear calling to ministry in my heart. Those years shaped me deeply, grounding me in a life of dependence on God. When I returned to the United States at 13, I carried that calling with me.

I pursued my education in Springfield, Missouri, earning a B.A. in Pastoral Ministries from Central Bible College and later a Master of Divinity from Assemblies of God Theological Seminary. In 2012, I was ordained, ready to step fully into the work God had prepared.

Though my early ministry was rooted in Pentecostal influence, God had been shaping a Reformed heart in me since childhood. I was drawn to the tradition’s profound emphasis on His sovereign grace and its deep commitment to Scripture. When the opportunity came this past March to transfer my ordination to the Christian Reformed Church, it felt like coming home. I was filled with excitement, humility, and deep gratitude for His perfect timing.

On a more personal note, I love to keep things light: cracking jokes with friends, unwinding with a good movie, playing or watching sports (college football), rooting hard for the Yankees, and above all, cherishing time with my family. I am happily married to my wife, Ashley, and we are blessed with two wonderful sons, Aiden and Alex, who bring endless joy and energy to our home.

By God's grace, I have the privilege of serving at GCC and now within the broader Christian Reformed Church family. My prayer is simple: that the Lord would continue to use me, my wife, and our boys to be a blessing to our congregation, to our denomination, and to His kingdom far beyond.
