노동절에 드리는 기도 by 존 칼빈

나의 하나님, 아버지, 구원자 되신 주님, 

우리의 필요를 위해서 일하라고 명하셨사오니, 

우리의 노동을 거룩하게 하사 

우리의 몸과 마음에 유익이 되게 하소서. 

우리의 모든 수고는 주님의 빛과 손길이 인도하지 않으면

헛되다는 것을 늘 기억하게 하소서. 

다른 이들에게 허락하신 소명을 질투하거나 시기하지 않게 하시고,

주께서 우리 각 사람에게 주신 은사를 따라

맡기신 소명을 충실히 감당하게 하소서.

가난한 자들의 필요를 채우는 일에 기꺼운 마음을 주시며,

그들에게 베풀면서 스스로를 높이지 않게 하소서.

혹 주께서 우리가 생각했던 것 보다 더한 가난으로 부르신다 할지라도,

원망하거나 반항하는 마음이 아닌

겸손과 감사로 이웃의 도움을 받게 하소서.

무엇보다, 이 땅의 일시적인 은혜는

영적인 은혜와 함께하도록 하시며,

우리의 몸과 영혼이 모두 주의 영광을 위해 살게 하소서.

My God, Father and Savior, 

since you have commanded us to work in order to meet our needs, 

sanctify our labor that it may bring nourishment to our souls 

as well as to our bodies.

Make us constantly aware that our efforts are worthless 

unless guided by your light and by your hand.

Make us faithful to the particular tasks 

for which you have bestowed upon us the necessary gifts, 

taking from us any envy or jealousy at the vocations of others.

Give us a good heart to supply the needs of the poor, 

saving us from any desire to exalt ourselves 

over those who receive our bounty.

And if you should call us into greater poverty than we humanly desire, 

save us from any spirit of defiance or resentment, 

but rather let us graciously and humbly receive the bounty of others.

Above all, may every temporal grace be matched by spiritual grace, 

that in both body and soul we may live to your glory.

주님, 이번 노동절에

우리가 하는 일을 기념하며,

우리에게 일할 수 있는 축복을 주신 것을 감사드립니다.

일자리를 찾고 있는 이들에게는

그 여정 가운데 주님의 인도하심이 함께하길 간구합니다.

또한 우리가 혼란스러울 때에는 지혜를 주시고,

갈등을 겪을 때에는 인내를 주시며,

하루하루를 마칠 수 있는 힘을 주시고,

지칠 때에는 참된 쉼을 허락해 주옵소서.

비록 우리와 일면식이 없을지라도

매일 묵묵히 수고하며 세상을 지탱하는 모든 이들과

주님께서 함께하여 주시길 간절히 기도드립니다.

Lord on this Labor Day, 

we celebrate the work we do,

and we thank You for the blessing of our jobs. 

We ask for those seeking employment that 

You guide them in their search for work.

We ask for guidance when we are confused.

We ask for patience when working through conflicts.

We ask for strength to complete each day.

We ask for rest when we are weary.

We ask that You be with those whose faces

we might never see but who work tirelessly

each day for the good of us all.
